FRESH FACES: Redefining What it Means to Create with Intention with Roti Brown

There’s a rare kind of creative whose work feels like a warm invitation—one that pulls you in, feeds your senses, and leaves you feeling seen. That’s exactly the energy Roti Brown brings to everything she touches. A creative strategist and content creator with roots in the kitchen and a heart for community, Roti’s artistry lives at the intersection of food, design, and connection. Her world is shaped by the women who came before her—her mother and grandmother—who taught her that a beautifully prepared meal isn’t just about taste, but about the feeling it leaves behind. The legacy of care and creativity has become the foundation of her modern, intentional approach to storytelling.

Whether she’s curating a tablescape or concepting a creative campaign, her work is a masterclass in balance. Through every recipe, photoshoot, and visual moment, Roti creates moments that invite us to slow down, savor, and celebrate the beauty in everything. And we’re so excited to bring you an exclusive glimpse into her day to day.

Herbivore: How did you start cooking?

Roti: I grew up in a household where all the women were excellent cooks. In my family, you learned by watching. From standing in the kitchen, being assigned random tasks, and eating the delicious food my grandmas, aunties, and mom were putting out, I eventually learned very organically. Now, I love that many of the family recipes I watched a million times growing up have become some of the favorites I get to share with my community.

Herbivore: Where did your passion for the culinary arts originate?

Roti: Food and cooking were a huge part of my childhood. My family prioritized dinner together almost every night, and those moments taught me that food is about more than what’s on the plate—it’s about connection. We rarely went out; instead, my mom cooked, set the table, and called us to enjoy the meal without distractions. Gathering with the people I love, building community, and sharing great conversation all trace back to my mom. She’s the ultimate host, and I strive to carry her same warmth and generosity into my own kitchen every day.

Herbivore: What grounds you in the environment you live in?

Roti: I grew up in the suburbs and recently moved back after living in the city for a while. I love being in a space that’s quiet, surrounded by trees, chirping birds, and not too much noise. I feel the calmest when I can’t hear traffic or anything that isn’t natural. That sense of stillness keeps me grounded.

Herbivore: What products are at the top of your Herbivore wish list?

Roti: The Cloud Milk Body Cream and the Coco Rose Coconut Oil Body Polish, are at the top of my list of faves. I love an “everything shower,” and I think a good scrub and moisturizer are non-negotiables. The set from Herbivore fits perfectly into that ritual.

Herbivore: Show us one of your favorite meals you’ve cooked and tell us about it.

Roti: One of my favorites is from a dinner I hosted for Black History Month. On the menu was Black Coconut Rice, Curry Lamb Shanks, Honey, Tamarind Brussel Sprouts and Date Focaccia, recipes that feel comforting, nostalgic, and timeless to me. They never get old.

Herbivore: What is the mantra you live by?

Roti: It depends on the day, but lately my internal mantra has been to slow down. I want to really enjoy things instead of rushing through them, stressing about them, or wishing certain phases were over. These days I’m taking time to savor every moment.
