Ritual Ideas for the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Cancer

This year, we are blessed to see a solar eclipse cross our skies at the new moon in Cancer, landing on July 2nd in 2019. This means it will be a particularly dark moon day, so take this opportunity to indulge in a ritual or few!

The astrological sign Cancer is ruled by the moon, so a new moon in Cancer feels right at home! Best known for its emotional energy and watery intuition, Cancer is a cardinal sign, meaning its energy is naturally inclined toward leadership. Thus, this new moon highlights emotional authenticity in combination with power. A solar eclipse ups the ante, closing doors and opening others. Cancers: prepare to feel empowered to make bold moves while yielding to the flow of events as they play out.

  • Energetic ritual idea: The next time you’re tasked to speak up—either to a colleague, group, partner, child, etc.—notice your authentic feelings as they flow. How do they encourage or teach you, moment-to-moment? Getting in tune with the continuing flow of emotional energy is a classic Cancerian skill and grounding activity. Do this specifically when tackling leadership opportunity to help Cancer energy spread its powerful crab legs. After you’ve taken up some space, ground yourself with a quick spritz of our Rose Hibiscus Hydrating Facial Mist.

This moon will be beautifully angled to the planet Neptune, which will be hovering in the realm of its sister water sign, Pisces. Dreamy Neptune feels at home in Pisces, so that makes two dreamy planets—the moon and neptune—hovering in water signs at this powerful new moon. Add a total solar eclipse, and all signs point to this being a tremendous moon for dreaming in the dark.

  • Before-bed ritual idea: On the night of the new moon, after completing your nighttime beauty ritual complete with Bakuchiol Smoothing Serum, sit down to meditate before going to bed. Light a candle and gaze into the flame for approximately one full minute to help your mind adjust to a calmer state. While in the midst of your meditation, invite the universe to bring you rich, fulfilling dreams. Continue meditating for at least ten gorgeous minutes, then go ahead and write any thoughts or worries down in a journal, stream-of-consciousness style when you’re ready. (Cancer does tend to worry, so don’t be surprised if you have a lot to say.)

An eclipse plus intense Cancer moon vibes may rock the senses, making it difficult to remember to hydrate. Challenge yourself: drink at least eight glasses of water on the day of the new moon, then celebrate your accomplishment with a quick call with your Mom, child, Auntie, or bestie (Cancer rules motherhood and nurturing). Alternatively, use this moon as an excuse to go skinnydipping or indulge in a luxurious bath complete with Cancerian-approved Amethyst Exfoliating Body Polish. You might choose to combine Cancer’s two loves (food and water) by making fresh nut milks at home with clean, filtered water, in honor of this powerful moment in time.

  • Water ritual idea: Place a bowl of water under the blanket of darkness provided by this new moon night, then go to sleep having asked it to attract guidance for your passions, dreams, and ambitions. The following day, either drink the water directly with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, or add it to your bathwater to absorb its magic.

Happy New Moon in Cancer!
